Color Theory ::: Indigo

Aboubakar Fofana’s Indigo ombre fabric tent made a big splash at ICFF in 2009, and then shortly after, he debuted a collection that was created for ABC Carpet & Home. All I could think about was how badly I wanted that tent, or even some of that fabric to make curtains.

I was reminded how much I loved it all over again when I saw Martyn Lawrence Bullard on Million Dollar Decorators shopping in London…

for these vintage Indigo textiles from West Africa to add to his Tastemaker sale at One King’s Lane. These are circa 1930 Mossi textiles from Burkina Faso. (The entire sale was sold out within 3 hours.)

Indigo dyeing is a centuries old craft, originally thought to have begun in India, and spread throughout Asia and Africa. Using ancient African weaving and dyeing techniques, Aboubakar Fofana has revived Mali’s nearly lost tradition with his collection that mixes old and new styles. I can never get enough of this color!

The style of the 70′s has been influencing everything from fashion to music for the past couple of years. There is such a simplicity & softness that the palettes usually evoke, particularly with the desert-like nudes and fuzzy warm greys.

Today I’m dreaming of balmy summer nights and long evening walks when everything fades except the city lights, soft and blurry in the distance. I used to take pictures of the street lamps when I lived in the suburbs, hoping for a confetti of blurry colored dots. I love movies and pictures showing LA at night for this reason.

Color Theory ::: Black & Wood

Spring weather was teasing me this past weekend, so I had a much brighter palette planned for today, but then with a hint of snow this morning, and cold weather lingering, I think I’ll hold off and go for something more handsome. Classic black + wood is usually my favorite duo in a shoe – black leather outer with rich wood wedges. It’s such an everlasting combination in the home as well.

Over the weekend, I needed some new Moleskine notebooks so I picked up a set of 3 with Kraft Brown covers. While working on this post, I remembered a wood-grain stamp I have {similar to this} and decided to decorate the covers.
