Digging around in some old interior inspiration, I came across this photograph of a sunroom in Countess Dorothy DiFrasso’s Beverly Hills home by the renowned interior decorator Elsie de Wolfe. The wall mural entitled ‘Zebra and Black Panther with Cacti’ (1936) by Charles Baskerville was custom made for the home, and became the backdrop of many Golden Age Hollywood parties hosted by DiFrasso in the 30′s and 40′s. It’s amazing how modern this still looks today, and its relevance continues to inform style across interiors and fashion.

Back to School

I try to re-organize myself every fall by cleaning up my desk and buying myself a few fun new office accessories to keep motivated. I am having a hard time letting go of summer, so I can’t think of a better wake-up call then these bright pops of color that are around the marketplace right now. When I saw Andreas Samuelsson’s print it made me want to go back to elementary school and start playing with Spirographs. Poppin is a great company that has a variety of office basics in a rainbow assortment of colors. They were kind enough to send me this red notebook and these ballpoint pens which I love and have been happily using since. (Thanks, Poppin!) Good luck getting back to the grind!

I just found out about this very interesting online store concept called Supermarket Sarah founded by Sarah Bagner, who left the corporate world behind to open her own shop. She lives around the corner from Portobello Road in London (where she also has a booth) and she creates a wall display of her items for sale which you can view, and then click on each individual item to purchase. The items are usually one of a kind, and often support independent designers. I love this new style of visual merchandising – what a cool idea. Check her out!

Brides to be can keep rejoicing with the brand new Decor collection that just launched at BHLDN. The folks behind Anthropologie/Urban Outfitters already knocked us out with their beautiful wedding dresses and accessories, and now, they are at it again with this gorgeous collection that would have been immensely helpful when I got married 2 years ago. Just got an email from Anthropologie about their new Tabletop Design Tool. They are hoping you’ll make a pattern or collage out of the items categorized by color groups, but it can be handy also if you want to just create a board out of your favorite pieces. Here are 2 separate boards I created very quickly, and placed side by side in Photoshop. They also have a hardware interactive tool if you’re shopping for knobs and hooks, and a whole list of other fun things to play around with here. What a perfect distraction from work.

I Spy ::: Polka Dots

I’m a girl who has always liked Polka Dots. They’re so fun and perky. Ever since I spied this Miu Miu blouse, I have been on the hunt for a polka dot blouse for spring in my price range. J.Crew had one in the fall that sold out very quickly, and so the search continues. It seems I am not the only one with spots and dots on my brain.

::: Hey, sailor :::

The Nautical trend has been hanging around for a couple of Spring/Summer seasons, and just about every clothing store you visit will have their version of the sailor striped boatneck shirt. Coco Chanel is credited for seeing the striped shirts worn by Breton sailors, and introducing her “marinière” shirt to the fashion world in 1917. They have never gone out of style. You could blame my Connecticut seashore upbringing, or the fact that my brother and I were dressed up in sailor suits when we were toddlers {see embarrassing photos below} but I am not sick of it yet.
