We’re having a crazy heatwave here in NYC and wouldn’t you know it since we decided that we should stay put in the city this weekend. Is it true…summer is finally here? I thought we’d never get here considering how cold and rainy our spring was. It’s sunny and supposed to be 86 degrees here in NYC today. The hubby and I took today off and are heading out of town to the beach. Wishing everyone here in the US a fun, restful holiday weekend.

It’s rather gloomy in New York this weekend, so I am playing some catch-up after a crazy couple of weeks. I’ll be checking out ICFF this weekend, stopping by the gallery to see my husband’s show again when it’s not so crowded, scoring some deals at the Dwell Studio sample sale, seeing a movie, and visiting some of my favorite LES health haunts to prep for my juice cleanse next week. It’s the weekend, friends! I’m excited to hang out with my hottie sister-in-law on Friday night, welcome my husband home from London {please don’t snow on Saturday night} and make Valentines at Spacecraft on Sunday with Remy & Alexa. In the meantime, I am daydreaming about a vintage Mercedes that would be perfect for a weekend drive. In fact, I have been for the last 8 years or so. Not in this weather of course, but summers by the shore…that sounds like a plan. Even better though – have you heard about  converting Mercedes diesel models from the late 70′s onward so that they can run off of vegetable oil? How often do classic style and sustainability align like that? Now, if only I can find the kind of seller who has a mint convertible or coupe in a California {rust free} garage and would like to sell it to a sweet gal like me for a song.

I am so excited to have the day off tomorrow so we can make an early escape to the Hudson Valley to celebrate our anniversary. This was a semi-last minute trip, so when I could not find a hotel available, VRBO came in handy and surprised us with an even better alternative to those booked hotels. We are renting a house near Red Hook, NY and will be exploring the area. I will be posting photos and a trip report next week. This is the first time I am spending the weekend, {I have only passed through for the day here and there} so I would love some recommendations from Hudson valley experts about your favorite things to do and places to see.
