Color Theory ::: Vintage Surf http://thisisluster.com/2011/05/19/color-theory-vintage-surf/ http://thisisluster.com/2011/05/19/color-theory-vintage-surf/#comments Thu, 19 May 2011 08:00:12 +0000 Luster http://thisisluster.com/?p=967536334

Montauk is on my mind as the time draws nearer to summer when we’ll be heading out to the East End for a much needed vacation. Last year about this time, our friend Camilla showed us The Endless Summer, the 1966 classic film about the hunt for the perfect wave. Camilla & the Perfect wave editorial team published the first issue of Perfect Wave magazine on the GreenerMags platform with the title inspired by the film. Endless Summer also happened to be screening at The Surf Lodge last summer during our visit. Ever since seeing the film, the surf journals of Tony Caramanico at Clic Gallery, and the collaged Montauk surfing photographs in Peter Beard’s book, I’ve been smitten with the look of vintage surf culture.

Look at these amazing vintage beauties from Tangier. There are no dates on them, only French phrases written below.

::: Wishlist: Vintage Mercedes ::: http://thisisluster.com/2011/02/04/wishlist-vintage-mercedes/ http://thisisluster.com/2011/02/04/wishlist-vintage-mercedes/#comments Fri, 04 Feb 2011 08:00:32 +0000 Luster http://thisisluster.com/?p=967533918

It’s the weekend, friends! I’m excited to hang out with my hottie sister-in-law on Friday night, welcome my husband home from London {please don’t snow on Saturday night} and make Valentines at Spacecraft on Sunday with Remy & Alexa. In the meantime, I am daydreaming about a vintage Mercedes that would be perfect for a weekend drive. In fact, I have been for the last 8 years or so. Not in this weather of course, but summers by the shore…that sounds like a plan. Even better though – have you heard about  converting Mercedes diesel models from the late 70′s onward so that they can run off of vegetable oil? How often do classic style and sustainability align like that? Now, if only I can find the kind of seller who has a mint convertible or coupe in a California {rust free} garage and would like to sell it to a sweet gal like me for a song.

Happy weekend!

Inside the Apothecary http://thisisluster.com/2010/08/18/inside-the-apothecary/ http://thisisluster.com/2010/08/18/inside-the-apothecary/#comments Wed, 18 Aug 2010 21:10:21 +0000 Luster http://jcamerondesign.com/blog/?p=967532952

Today I am inspired by old apothecaries with their shelves of tinctures in amber bottles, worn paper labels with amazing typography and ephemera. Wishing I could visit one right now and pick up a magic elixir!

Clockwise left to right: vintage apothecary & seltzer bottles, products from c.o. bigelow whose packaging keeps the original feel of their nyc apothecary, apothecary chest, in the background: black and white shower curtain from izola.
